F A Q’s about Individualized Two Plus Two
Who can apply for this program?
The AA, AS degree student or in some
pre-determined situations the |AAS student who has selected a major and has two
or more semesters remaining at their community college.
What about AAS degree Students?
I am working on a limited basis with some
AAS degree programs that are also eligible for the time saving Capstone Option.
The real advantage for AAS students is the early application to popular
technical programs on the SIUC in conjunction with a knowledgeable contact
person on the SIUC campus.
What if the student is a first semester freshman with no transfer
work?
This is actually the best scenario for the student. The student’s “
initial plan” will contain a list of all the courses required plus a list of
available courses at their community college. The student and their advisor will
have the most time to benefit from the program.
When should a student apply?
AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. This is a program of
Diminishing Returns, the earlier a student is involved in this program the more
time they will have to successfully plan their transfer. A student MUST have a
minimum of two semesters remaining at their community college.
What happens after the student applies?
The student’s application is
entered into the SIUC system in a pre-admission status. A plan will be prepared
for the student and communication will begin.
Does this program work for every major?
No. Some majors are better than
others; i.e., Education, Business, Science, Social Work, Engineering to name a
few. However, for some majors, such as Cinema and Photography, Design, Forestry,
it is to the student’s advantage to apply early to SIUC and transfer after one
year at their community college. When in doubt check it out!
If accepted, when will a student receive their degree plan?
Approximately
3 weeks after the receipt of their application and official transcript(s), their
initial plan will be mailed.
What is contained in an Individualized 2 + 2 plan?
A 2 + 2 plan contains a
transfer credit evaluation of a student’s transfer coursework, a list of all
courses specific to their major and a list of equivalent courses available at
their community college.
What if the student has questions about their plan?
The student may call,
write or E-mail the Coordinator of 2 + 2 at any time with questions or their
major SIUC advisement office about their plan.
Does the student receive follow up information?
Each semester that a
transcript with additional transfer coursework is received for the student, an
update will be prepared and mailed to the student, their SIUC advisor and their
community college advisor.
Does the student have to submit another admission application before
transferring to SIUC?
NO, After a student has completed the 2 + 2 application
they do not have to submit another application to transfer to SIUC. After 26
semester hours of transferable coursework has been received they will be
automatically admitted to SIUC for their projected semester.
What if the student wants to change their term of entry to SIUC?
A student
may change their term of entry to SIUC at any time by notifying the 2+2
coordinator.
What if a student decides to transfer early?
If a student decides to
transfer early they may call, write or E-mail the coordinator to stimulate the
change. If they have transferred 26 or more transferable semester hours they
will be admitted as sophomores. If they are transferring less than 26 semester
hours they must follow the rules for freshman students as stated in the SIUC
undergraduate catalog.
What if a student wants to change their major?
We encourage all students
to carefully consider any major change, and to always discuss the consequences
with their advisors first. If they do decide to change majors, they may call,
write or e-mail and I will process the change.
Will the student receive a new plan for their new major?
If the student
has two or more semesters left a new plan will be prepared and redistributed.
What are some of the advantages to the student of Dual
Admission through Individualized 2 + 2?
Student’s who have been admitted
early may:
– receive the earliest contracts for student
housing;
– automatically be in contention for transfer scholarships;
– receive early financial aid counseling;
– be eligible to benefit from SalukiNet; and,
– work one on one with the Individualized two plus two for early problem
intervention.
What is SalukiNet?
SalukiNet is a link to the SIUC Student Information
System that 2 + 2 participants and their advisors can access. With SalukiNet a
student can see first hand how a change of major would affect them by playing
the “what if” game without officially making the change.
Should a student visit the campus prior to transfer?
Absolutely…if
possible visit more than once. We will be happy to coordinate a visit with
whomever they would like to see. Advisors, teachers, facilities, etc. The more a
student knows about the campus, the lower their anxiety factor will be during
the transfer process.
Transcripts
For Southern Illinois community colleges (Below I-70 including
Lewis and Clark) a transcript release is provided for each student to the
Registrar. At the end of each semester the Registrar sends transcripts for 2+2
students who attended the previous semester.
Student’s from central and
northern Illinois are requested to send an updated transcript if they would like
an update to their file.
Receipt of transcripts on a regular basis is a key
point of this program.
