Individualized Two Plus Two

Planning Your Future

Many students enter the community college system today with a firm goal in mind. They plan to complete an associate degree and transfer to a specific bachelor’s degree program as soon as possible. If you are a goal-oriented student, SIUC would like to help you structure a degree plan for achieving your academic goal. The Individualized Two Plus Two program was designed to provide students with a degree plan offering the most direct path to a bachelor’s degree. Individualized Two Plus Two will save you two valuable commodities- time and money-by enabling you to apply your community college course work to your best advantage at SIUC.

Here’s How Individualized Two Plus Two Works at SIUC

[2+2 FAQ] 2+2 FAQ

Individualized Two Plus Two provides the transfer student with an exact listing of the courses required to complete the bachelor’s degree. We will evaluate your community college course work on a semester-by-semester basis. You won’t have to wonder if your course work will transfer to SIUC. With Individualized Two Plus Two we will reassure you with constant feedback so that you will know each semester, while you are still attending your community college, exactly how your work is transferring. To further assist you, we will provide you with a list of courses available at your community college that will transfer directly to your chosen major at SIUC. Your initial plan and all updates will be sent to you, your community college advisor and your major advisement office on campus at SIUC.

How to Apply

Print the Printable Admission Application and submit it or complete the On-line Admission Application.

Complete the Transcript Release Form and submit it to the Two Plus Two Coordinator at the address below. You must then request one official transcript from each college you have previously attended. You will not need to submit another admission application to transfer to SIUC. If you need to change your term of entry just call the Two Plus Two coordinator.

When to Apply

A student who has decided to attend a community college and has selected a major at SIUC may apply to the Individualized Two Plus Two program at any time. The earlier you apply the more time you will have to take advantage of the opportunities offered by this program. If you have less than two semesters left at your community college, or if you are involved in an A.A.S. degree program, please consider the other SIUC transfer programs described on the back of this brochure.

Preparing Your Degree Plan

After evaluating your transcript(s), SIUC will prepare and mail an Individualized Two Plus Two plan to you, your community college adviser, and your major adviser at SIUC. Your plan will contain:
  • An evaluation of course work you have completed to date;
  • Admission requirements for your projected SIUC major;
  • A list of all courses required for your projected SIUC major;
  • A list of community college courses that will transfer directly to your SIUC major.

We Will Monitor Your Progress

After each semester at your community college, SIUC will need an updated official transcript. We will evaluate your new work and send a report of your degree progress to you and your advisers. Upon award of your A.A. or A.S. degree or clarification of IAI requirements, your University Core Curriculum requirements at SIUC will be waived.

If You Decide To Change Your Major . . .

If you consider a change of major, we suggest you first discuss it with your adviser. Changing your major without planning may have costly consequences. Individualized Two Plus Two students have an advantage when considering a change of major-the opportunity to access their academic records via the SIUC website, SalukiNet. Access to this website allows a student or adviser to temporarily substitute a new major by asking the “what if I change my major” question. Without making an official change, students are able to see first hand how a change of major will affect them academically. Permission to use SalukiNet is restricted to SIUC and Individualized Two Plus Two students. SalukiNet is located at http://salukinet.siu.edu/. If you need assistance with SalukiNet, or would like to discuss available majors at SIUC, call the Individualized Two Plus Two coordinator.

Transferring to SIUC

After transferring 26 transferable semester hours with at least a 2.0 grade point average (4.0=A), you will be admitted to SIUC for your projected semester. Your status as an admitted student will enable you to receive a University housing contract, apply for financial aid and, if you qualify, be considered for a transfer scholarship. Individualized Two Plus Two takes the extra step to make your transfer to SIUC as smooth as possible.

Other Transfer Options at SIUC

If you have fewer than two semesters left to complete your degree at your community college, now is the time to consider one of SIUC’s other options for transfer students.

For A.A. or A.S. Degree Graduates

You may transfer your Illinois community college A.A. or A.S. degree to SIUC, and we will grant you admission, consider you a junior in class standing, and waive the University Core Curriculum requirements for general graduation purposes.

For IAI (Illinois Articulation Initiative) Students

SIUC is a participant in the IAI, a statewide agreement that allows transfer of the completed Transferable General Education Core Curriculum between participating institutions. Completion of the General Education Core Curriculum at any participating college or university in Illinois assures transferring students that general education requirements for an associate or bachelor degree have been satisfied. This agreement is in effect for students entering an associate or baccalaureate degree-granting institution as first-time freshmen in summer 1998 (and thereafter). Students who have completed the Illinois Transferable General Education Core, and have been certified completed by the sending institution, will have completed the University Core Curriculum requirements at SIUC. SIUC reentry students may not use IAI to complete the University Core Curriculum.

For Associate of Applied Sciences (A.A.S.) Degree Graduates

SIUC offers an exclusive option for the A.A.S. degree graduate. If you are admitted to the Capstone Option at SIUC we will guarantee that you can turn your-two year A.A.S. degree into a bachelor’s degree in 60 planned semester hours at SIUC. There are 25 majors at SIUC that currently offer the Capstone Option.
