The University operates on a semester-based academic calendar, with two 16-week semesters in the Fall and Spring being the main terms that students are expected to attend.

According to the academic calendar, the first term is actually a Summer session which is optional for most students.  The main part of the Summer session is 8 weeks in length, with an additional 4 week Intersession preceding the main Summer session.  Classes scheduled during the Summer Intersession count as a part of the Summer session for credit hours and time status, GPA and Deans List, tuition and fee assessment, financial aid, and graduation eligibility calculation purposes.

In recent years, an optional Winter Intersession (also referred to as the "J-Term") set of classes has been held in-between the Fall and Spring semesters.  Classes scheduled during the Winter Intersession count as a part of the Spring semester for credit hours and time status, GPA and Deans List, tuition and fee assessment, financial aid, and graduation eligibility calculation purposes.
