How To Check Your Registration Status Using SalukiNet

How can you tell if you're eligible to register for classes at SIUC for a given term? One way is to contact your academic advisement unit or your college. However, another way is to check SalukiNet. Once you've logged into the Your Records portion of SalukiNet, you would choose the REGISTRATION menu, then click on Registration Status and choose the desired term. You'll find out your eligibility to register for that term, as well as if you'll be permitted to self-register using Web Registration on SalukiNet.

(Please note that you normally cannot properly use this function any earlier than about a month before the start of Advance Registration. Even preliminary information for the upcoming term may not be in place on your student record until that time.)

The following is a step-by-step walk-through of the process to follow within SalukiNet, complete with sample screen prints. It assumes that you're familiar with logging into SalukiNet, but that you haven't used the Registration Status feature. If you need assistance with logging into SalukiNet, please click here.

Accessing information from the Registration Status screen:

From the YOUR PERSONAL RECORDS menu, click on Registration. This will bring up the REGISTRATION menu. Click here to see a screen print of the registration menu page.

You'll next want to click on Registration Status to bring up that page. Click here to see a screen print of that page. Then you'll choose the term -- in this example, Fall 2004 -- in order to find out your eligibility to register, as well as whether or not you will be permitted to self-register using Web Registration.

The resulting summary page has a few different components. Different students may see some different messages, and the same student may see different messages depending on what timeframe it is. Let's try to illustrate this.

First example ... click here to see one screen print of the resulting page. This is an example taken before registration for Fall 2004 opened up. And remember that nearly every student is supposed to be assigned a registration date/time. Therefore, when the Your Registration Eligibility Status box states "You are NOT YET ELIGIBLE to register for this term," and the only Applicable Restriction is the date/time which has not yet occurred, then this means that once the date/time has occurred, this student should then be eligible to register.

Now if there are other restrictions listed when you actually try this on SalukiNet, you would go ahead and click on each restriction's "Reason" to access a pop-up help file detailing what you will need to do to get that restriction satisfied in time to register. The most likely restrictions revolve around holds on your student record due to financial or other reasons.

Please understand that, in rare instances, it is possible that the restrictions listed here are not complete. That would happen if you have, for example, more than one kind of "Miscellaneous" or "Financial" hold on your student record. To see all of your holds and what activities they restrict, you can go to the PERSONAL PROFILE menu and click on the Holds function. There, clicking on the individual "Hold Type" entries will access a pop-up help file that will detail what office you will need to contact in order to try to get that hold lifted.

Second example ... click here to see another screen print of the resulting page. This is an example taken after registration for Fall 2004 opened up. Same student, but now that the student's registration date/time has arrived, this student is now eligible to register, since there are no other restrictions.

Now there's another box of interest on these pages. The Your Enrollment Status box for this student indicates that he/she has not yet enrolled in any courses. (If the student was enrolled, it would indicate that along with related information about that enrollment.) This box also indicates the Use of Web Registration. This lets you know whether or not you are permitted to self-register using Web Registration within SalukiNet. In the examples that we're looking at, this student is permitted to do so. If the student was not permitted to do so, an appropriate message would display.

Not all departments permit their students to use Web Registration. But even if your department does permit it, please realize that there may be reasons why you, as an individual student, are not permitted to do so. As one example, international students are currently not being permitted to do so at the request of SIUC's Office of International Students and Scholars. Therefore, they will have to register through their academic advisor or college. And remember that even if you are permitted to do so, if the Your Registration Eligibility Status box indicates restrictions, you will have to satisfy those restrictions before you can use Web Registration.

One last word about restrictions. During the week right before registration for a term begins, there are various "last minute" holds that get posted to some students' records. This occurs because students are being given as much time as possible to get requirements taken care of (e.g., submission of transcripts from previous institutions, satisfaction of immunization requirements, payment of certain past-due amounts) before there is a hard registration stop placed on the student's record. We recommend that you check the Your Enrollment Status box more than once during that time -- particularly a day or two before registration opens -- just to see if a "last minute" hold has been posted.
