Mainframe services will no longer be available as of December 15, 2009.
Note: the CMS programming environment was removed from service on June 30, 2005. In its
place, SIUC mainframe computer users have the TSO environment in which to submit programs.
Former CMS users requiring assistance with the change to TSO should contact Information
Technology's Adam Floro (adam@siu.edu). Adam has put together a document which covers many
of the details of this process, and which serves as an introduction to features of TSO.
You may normally submit Mark IV, SAS, COBOL, and other types of mainframe computer programs
for execution from your TSO account at almost any time.
However, if your program will require the mounting of a tape by the Operations staff, you
cannot submit the program during third shift on the weekends (that is, 12:01am to 8:00am
on Saturday and Sunday).
Also, on approved SIUC University holidays, the Network Control Center is normally staffed
no more than between 9:00am and 5:00pm. You normally can't submit scheduled programs via
JobTrac during the hours when NCC is not staffed, but you may be able to submit ad hoc
programs from your own TSO library during such times (if they do not require tape mounts
or other intervention by the Operations staff). For more information, including
announcements of service outages, NCC's Web site is https://itmfs1.it.siu.edu/ncc/php/.
Other than these restrictions on the submission of programs, you should normally be able
to access and use your TSO account 24/7/365.
