Coursedog is a comprehensive yet intuitive platform that is organized into functional modules for managing curriculum, scheduling, and the academic catalog. Academic units can create and edit courses, propose new majors and minors, build the course schedule for each term, create and update course sections, and complete many other curriculum and scheduling tasks. Departments can also update their public-facing catalog pages directly in Coursedog.
The first phase of implementation includes Academic Scheduling, Curriculum Management, and Catalog/Handbook components. Once these core modules are in place, Syllabus Management, Curriculum Analytics, and Course Demand Projections will be introduced to further enhance academic planning and decision-making.
Academic Scheduling (Summer 2027)
The Academic Scheduling module is a comprehensive platform for the creation and management of academic schedules, helping institutions reduce manual work, resolve conflicts, optimize resources, and build schedules that better align with student and institutional needs.
Curriculum Management (Spring 2027)
End-User Training currently planned for weeks of February 22 - March 1, 2027
The Curriculum Management module streamlines the entire curriculum lifecycle--from proposal and review through approval and implementation--while improving governance, transparency, and data consistency.
Catalog/Handbook (Catalog Year 2027-2028)
Coursedog's Catalog/Handbook replaces the manual, document-heavy catalog processes with a dynamic, centrally managed catalog and handbook that stays aligned with institutional curriculum changes.
Syllabus Management (Coming Soon)
The Syllabus Management centralizes and standardizes the syllabus lifecycle while reducing manual work for faculty and improving access and consistency for students and administrators.
Curriculum Analytics (Coming Soon)
Curriculum Analytics turns curriculum and academic data into actionable insights, helping institutions understand what is working, identify opportunities for improvement, and make more informed curriculum decisions.
Course Demand Projections (Coming Soon)
The Course Demand Projections module supports academic planning by forecasting future course demand using enrollment trends and institutional data. It helps departments anticipate student needs, optimize course offerings, allocate resources effectively, and make data-informed scheduling decisions.
Security Roles for Coursedog are assigned by module as well as operational need. The following table presents user roles and descriptions for active modules. It is expected that many users will need access to multiple products and roles.
Coursedog Security Roles
Complete Coursedog training and request access at sis.siu.edu.
| Product (Module) | Role | Description |
| Administrative | Super Admin | Role designed for the Coursedog implementation team; provides access to effectively all applicable functionality, with notable limitations to edit data that would interfere with the integration or business processes. |
| Catalog | TBA | TBA |
| Curriculum | Curriculum Admin | All settings enabled except for delete courses and allow additional requests for in-flight proposals. |
| Curriculum Approver | Role designed to only allow the user to vote on requests that go through a workflow with which they are associated. No ability to initiate their own requests. Determine whether or not a separate role is needed to curriculum requester; if you do not need to prohibit a certain set of users from submitting requests at all, then the curriculum requester role should suffice for this purpose. | |
| Curriculum Committee Manager | Role assigned to the chairperson of the Curriculum committees for each college. These users maintain the committee member list as turnover occurs, record the vote and approve or deny proposals on behalf of the committee. | |
| Curriculum Department Admin | Role designed to let certain users, specifically department leaders, edit courses & programs from their department directly, in addition to initiating requests, viewing reports, etc. Effectively Curriculum Requester + conditional edit course/program capabilities. | |
| Curriculum Proposal Editor | Role assigned to users in the workflows who must edit the proposal directly. Examples include attaching documentation or answering questions that may change the course of the workflow. | |
| Curriculum Requestor | Role designed to only allow the user to view courses & programs, and create/edit their own proposals (requests). | |
| Scheduling | Department Scheduler | Role designed for users in charge of scheduling on behalf of a department/unit, and provides them with conditional access to edit/add courses/sections accordingly. Cannot control any in-app settings. |
| Law Scheduler | Law School specific. TBA | |
| Scheduling Admin | Role designed for academic leadership that are largely approving requests, but may be able to bypass workflows or have additional access to data given seniority. |
