Combined (Co-Scheduled) Sections

For sections scheduled together in the same classroom and at the same time, the sum of their maximum capacities must equal the expected total enrollment. Capacities should be distributed among participating sections so the combined capacity accurately reflects the number of students expected in the classroom.

Example - Four sections meet together with an anticipated total enrollment of 20 students.

• Section A: 5
• Section B: 5
• Section C: 5
• Section D: 5

Total Capacity = 20

Department schedulers and academic units are responsible for:

1. Establishing realistic enrollment projections for courses that meet together.
2. Distributing maximum enrollment capacities across all combined sections so that the total equals the anticipated combined enrollment.
3. Reviewing capacities during schedule development and prior to room assignment processes. Academic departments are expected to maintain enrollment caps that accurately reflect actual space needs.

Exceptions - Requests to exceed the anticipated combined enrollment must be approved through standard enrollment management or scheduling procedures and may require reassessment of the assigned classroom space.
